Thanks for stopping by our website…. perhaps you are wondering…. Just exactly who are the “friends” of the East Elfers Cemetery?

We are just regular folks who are in our 60’s, 70’s and 80’s who for the most part, grew up here…. Probably graduated from Gulf High… and who have mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts and perhaps children who are buried in this beautiful resting place.

We have many family members who were buried expecting to have the cemetery maintained by their family. Most of the families knew each other and many were inter-related. Then the Asbury Church started selling gravesites with the promise of Perpetual Care. (See brochure under “Legal/Financial” on this site ) This seemed like a good idea as families became more mobile. Two thirds of all lot sales income was to be deposited in a professionally managed perpetual care fund. We were very unhappy to learn that the current Asbury Church leadership first donates 15% of each sale to the Church treasury contrary to the original statements by the church. Money is only added to the Perpetual Care fund when they think warranted. We do not have access to records showing what has been contributed to the Perpetual Care fund over the years but as you can see in the financials the expenses are using most of the sales income. When all the graves are sold there will be no more income, but expenses will continue. We hope to correct this situation and provide perpetual care and proper maintenance to the Cemetery. We can only do so with your help and trust. If you share our concerns, have loved ones who are buried here, please join us in mitigating this issue….
