East Elfers Cemetery
.... Information from the Friends ....This is a very Historical Cemetery…. There are gravestones in many places within that are over a century old. Please enjoy your virtual visit to this mystical place.
Hello Everyone,
This is the second email to people who may have an interest in the East Elfers Cemetery.
The next communication may come from
info@eastelferscemetery.org
So, add this to your contacts to be sure you are kept in the loop. We are setting this up to reach people who would like information about the Cemetery but can no longer find it on the Asbury Church website.
If you would like to make your concerns known to the State, you can find a “Complaint Form—Funeral and Cemetery Matters” at this link and click on file a complaint.

As I said in the first email, the Asbury Methodist Church is closing June 30, 2020. The Florida Methodist Conference has told me they are looking for someone else to be responsible for the Cemetery.
They suggest that interested parties form a Cemetery Association. This is how it was organized before 1978. Families may once again be responsible for the upkeep of the cemetery.
If you are interested in being part of such an association, know of others who are, or have other comments or suggestions, please let me know.
There are many things to consider before such an association is formed. For a start we need to have contact information for as many interested parties as we can find. This email is going to just over 50 people. The records are poor, and we don’t have access to them, but in 2000 someone recorded 865 burials and posted on the web. There are MANY more since.
Until 2011 the deeds were not recorded with the county. Some indicate that for some period deeds were not issued only receipts. Help will be needed to determine what is sold and what is available to sell. If you have a deed or receipt with a burial location specified please send a copy. Hopefully it is in the records and has not been sold again and no other burial has been “accidentally” made in the spaces you own.
Lists of burials can be found on these independent websites
https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/71922/east-elfers-cemetery
http://files.usgwarchives.net/fl/pasco/cemetery/eastelfers.txt
http://www.uscemeteryproj.com/florida/pasco/eelfers/eelfers.htm
If you know of burial that are not listed on any of these websites, please send the details so we can piece together records of existing burials.
We should be able to identify several thousand descendants and living family members. We need as many contacts as possible. If you are willing to make calls, search the net and otherwise obtain contact information for interested people, please find them and ask them to go the website and send an email with contact information.
